And the award goes to…

When Beatportal first profiledSkrillex, back in November, 2010, nobody knew much of anything about the guy. He came from a hardcore band, apparently—not that anyone in the electronic scene knew anything about that. He’d just dropped his debut EP on Deadmau5’s mau5trap label, and eight of its tracks dominated the Beatport Top 10—an unprecedented coup for a veteran producer, much less a dark horse like Skrillex, with the inky mane to match.

Fourteen months later, the guy has posed for magazine covers, amassed nearly four million Facebook followers, and collaborated with Korn and The Doors. And, as of last night, Sonny Moore has three shiny new Grammy trophies.

While he didn’t win the coveted Best New Artist award—that went to Justin Vernon’s Bon Iver—he did make a pretty darn clean sweep: Best Dance Recording, Best Dance/Electronica Album, and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. (The only other award he didn’t take home was for Best Short Form Music Video, which went—like most of the evening’s statuettes—to Adele.)

We’re proud of our boy. We’ve watched him go from wild card to top dog, from blank slate to heavy hitter, and he’s done it all on his own terms. Congratulations, Sonny: you deserve it.

Best Dance Recording:
Skrillex – Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites [Mau5trap]

Best Dance/Electronica Album:
Skrillex – Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites [Mau5trap]

Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical:
Benny Benassi – Cinema (Skrillex Remix) [Ultra]
